Coleman 8-Person Tenaya Cabin Tent Review

This Coleman 8-Person Tenaya Cabin Tent review will outline the core features of this higher-end model. The Tenaya is a great camping tent for groups that are big and small. In particular, this one was designed for up to 8 people. This model has a slightly higher price than Coleman’s average 8-person tent.

You can compare this tent to the Coleman 8-person red canyon tent, and see that the price is higher for the Tenaya. The most obvious difference between the two tents is the fact that the Tenaya has a higher roof throughout the entirety of the tent area. Also, the floor of the tent extends throughout the entire area of the tent instead of just in part.

Benefits of the Weathertec system

This Coleman tent can be left open at the top for those dry starry nights. If is does happen to rain, Coleman’s patented Weathertec system will kick in and keep you and your gang dry. The zippers are sutured in such a way to keep the water from seeping into the cracks between the zipper and the tent lining. The seems of the tent are sewn inside out to prevent leakage between the seam lines.

As with all tents, some rain guard should be spray over the entire surface of the tent to insure that torrential rains will not penetrate the tent wall. That being said, this newer tent model from Coleman is 75% more water-resistant than previous models.

Coleman 8-Person Tenaya Cabin Tent Reviews

This tent is very spacious and its roof is high enough that I can stand in it without my head touching the ceiling; and I’m 5” 8’. There are little compartments where I can store my camping gear and a divider for privacy. The tent held up throughout the rain and moderate winds on my last camping trip.

We had rains for up to 10 hours one night, and the tent did not leak. We also had not used any rain fly. However, my recommendation is to purchase a tarp to put underneath the tent, and some rain fly. I believe that these are the key to maintaining the tent and preventing any leakage from continuous on rainy days.We went camping with our dog, and 2 kids. On one side there was a queen airbed, and on the other was a single airbed, a cot, and a bed for the dog. We easily fit this all inside with some spare room left over to comfortably walk around and play.

The best part about the tent is the hinged door. Our kids go in and out throughout the day, and this would be annoying if they needed to unzip every time. The only time we need to zip it up is at night when we are going to be going to sleep.

Coleman 8-Person Tenaya Cabin Tent Review: Verdict

Over all, this tent has overwhelmingly positive reviews. As Coleman is a leading brand when it comes to camping, it is always improving upon its products, and the Tenaya 8-person tent is a reflection of some of the latest improvements that were made to the Coleman technology.

In conjunction with the Tenaya tent, we would suggest that you also purchase the following for your next camping trip:

Rain Guard: Spraying your tent with Rain Guard will help prevent any leakage during torrential rains. Although Coleman’s Weathertec system is great, one should alway use rain guard on any camping trip.

Tent pegs: Although the Tenaya tent comes with its own set of pegs, if you are going to be setting up tent in a very rocky area, purchasing aluminum tent pegs will make it easier to hammer in the peg.

Tarp: Putting a tarp under the tent floor is usually the best way to keep a tent intact. For example, if you are setting up a tent on a rocky surface, there is a risk of rupturing the tent floor are you are walking on it. This is not particular to the Tenaya; it applies to all modern tents.
