What They Have In Common

While there are a few things to bear in mind that make these backpacks unique, we are going to be talking about the features that they have in common in this section.

What they are made for: The Quasar and the Comments are made for your daily commute to and from work/school. But they can also be taken with you on a day of hiking. This is due to their versatile design, accommodating electronics as well as getting plenty of room for daily necessities.

Padded laptop sleeve:

A backpack for your daily commute would not be complete without a laptop sleeve. After all, how many people travel without their laptops? The laptop sleeve on these backpacks are of the ‘hanging’ variety. This means that they will not get damaged if there are hard drops on the ground.

Osprey Quasar Men's Laptop Backpack, BlackLaptop sleeve: The laptop sleeves on these backpacks are padded in order to protect your electronics.

Internal organization pockets: Both these backpacks have internal organization pockets for your small items. Inside of the main organizational compartment are various slots for your credit cards, cell phone, pens, keys, and mouse.

Side mesh pockets:

And Osprey backpack would not be complete without their standard side mesh pockets. Can store your water bottles in there, or simply stash away some of the small items that you have.

Blinker light attachments: The Quasar and the Comet have blinker light attachments to keep you safe while you’re traveling in dark conditions.

Osprey Quasar vs Comet: The Differences

As you can see from the above, many of the core features that come with the backpack are included in both these. You can tell that these backpacks are brother and sister just by the fact that they’re both named after space terms.

But there are a few things that are different about them that you want to take into account:

Osprey Comet Laptop BackpackExternal bungee cord:

The Quasar has an external bungee cord that allows you to stash your jackets without needing to take up space in the main compartment. The Comet does not have this c0rd.

Front panel handles:

The Comet has a padded handle on the front of the backpack. While both these backpacks have a padded handle at the top, the Quasar does not have a front panel handle. It is up to you to decide if you would benefit from having this handle.

Many customers feel like it is easier to transport with that added handle. It allows you to easily put it in the overhead compartment on an airplane or throat in the back of a bus.

Removable hip belt:

Are you the type of person who does not like to have hip belt hanging by your sides? The Comet’s hip belt can be completely removed. This is great if you’re not going to be carrying a heavy load or riding on a bicycle.

Osprey Quasar

The Verdict

These backpacks are so similar in features that it is difficult for many people to make a decision as to which one they want to purchase. Perhaps the fact that they mostly differ based on the gear capacity is a consideration. Or perhaps the fact that the Quasar has a bungee cord is something that you really prefer.

We love the fact that the Comet has a removable hip belt. At times, we do not want to carry much gear and appreciated when we do not have to have hip belts hanging down by our sides.

If you have a preference for one or the other, please leave it in a comment below. We would love to hear from you!
