Osprey has new models for the Talon backpacks. They are now nimbler and lighter than the ones from before. Talon backpacks were created for hiking and sports. They are for the more active backpackers that need light hiking packs. The Talon 22 and Talon 33 have recently hit the scene with new features that make them better than some of the older Talon models.

What Makes the New Talon 22 and 33 So Great

The new Talon 33 and 22 models are made with the light hiker in mind. Compared to the other Osprey backpacks of the same size, they are actually lighter. But the materials used are of the same quality.

They are also more comfortable on the back. They feature the new continuous lumbar-to-hip-belt support. This means that there is no seeing between the lumbar portion of the backpanel and the hip belt. This means that you will not have any hard corners sticking into your hips.

The new Talons feature a new suspension system that stabilizes the loads for high activity. They also have inside-out compression straps around the bottom sides. These compression straps double as gear carry straps.

As with any awesome hiking backpack, both the Talon 22 and Talon 33 feature an external hydration sleeve. They have trekking pole and ice pick attachments, as well as a large stretch mesh front pocket. Overall, they are more robust in design than previous Talon models.

The Talon 22 is great for day hikes and daily commuting. In fact, the Talon 22 is optimal for usage while cycling or roaming about town, but it is not made for overnight backpacking.

The Talon 33 provides ample room for overnight backpacking. It can also be used as your daily commute backpack if you will be carrying plenty of gear, such as books or a jacket.

Pocket Organization

While the majority of pockets on these backpacks are place and similar spots, the Talon 33 has an extra pocket on the top lid. The top lid is quite large and hold a large pocket. Inside of this pocket is a smaller zippered mesh pocket for your smaller items.

The top lid on the Talon can be flipped up and the large opening for the main compartment will be revealed. The opening is larger than that of the Talon 22. While the Talon 33’s main compartment opening is much larger than that of the Talon 22, the Talon 22 has zippered access the main compartment on both sides.

Usage for Cycling

Both these Talon backpacks are made for active hikers and day commuters. As they are both optimized for high activity, they can be used while cycling. Due to the size of the Talon 33, is used less often for cycling as the Talon 22. This is why the Talon 22 includes a helmet attachment, while the Talon 33 does not.

The choice between a Talon 22 and the Talon 33 is generally as easy as deciding which size you will actually need. Keep in mind that the Talon 22 does have a helmet loop, while the Talon 33 does not. While the Talon 33 can be used for cycling purposes, it is a larger backpack that is also meant for overnight backpacking.

Due to its size, the Talon 33 has better access to its main compartment through a large top opening. It also has the extra top lid pockets to store your smaller items.
