Osprey Daylite Pack: A Day Travel Backpack Review

This Osprey Daylite Pack review is for those looking for a daytime backpack.

This backpack can be attached to larger Osprey backpacks. Although it is on the smaller side, it does hold enough quantity for an entire day of hiking. It is simply made lightweight but does not have as many pockets as the other Osprey products.

The Daylite Pack comes in 8 different colors. In design, it is a unisex backpack.

The Osprey Daylite Pack is made for those wanting a small backpack for day travel. Often, there are times when we simply want to roam about without being encumbered by a heavy backpack.

Attach this to one of your heavier packs while traveling long distances. Once you arrive at your destination, unclip this pack from the bigger one and roam around.

You do not need to have a larger backpack in order to take advantage of the Daylite Pack. Some customers buy this alone and simply use it to go to work with. It comes in a great ergonomic design, which makes it more comfortable than regular day packs.

The zippered front pocket comes with a mesh organizer for small items. The special organizer is secure and comes with a key clip.

Foam frame sheet:

One of the hallmarks of Osprey backpacks is the fact that they are ergonomic and make their content feel a lot lighter. This is partly due to the fact that the back panel comes with a frame sheet that distributes weight evenly across the back. This means less shifting around of content as you move. It also means that weight will not play on particular pressure points that would make the content feel heavier.

Removable hip belt:

The hip belt on the Osprey Daylite Pack allows for stability as you move. But if this is not needed, simply remove the hip belt from the backpack.

The Verdict

The Daylight Pack is Osprey’s staple day pack. It can be attached to the number of Osprey backpacks that are specially designed to attach it. Do remember that this day pack is a small backpack that is not meant for overnight hiking or rigorous sports. It simply does not have enough space for staying somewhere overnight. However, it is an excellent choice for your day travels. At the end of the day, bring it back to your hotel and refill it in the morning.

If you are looking for a backpack that has a little bit more space, we also like the Talon 22 backpack.

Osprey Packs Talon 22 Men's Hiking Backpack, Medium/Large, Black

The Talon 22 is one of us Osprey’s multi-sport backpacks. It is also on the smaller side but has a bit more space, and can be used for overnight stays outdoors. As an added bonus, it has the stability it needs to be carried on your back while cycling or running.

If carrying around a water bottle is important to you, the Daylite Pack does have side pockets where you can insert a water bottle. However, they are not quite as big as Ospreys’ other backpacks’ side pockets. If you are using a regular-sized water bottle, you may not be able to insert it into the side pocket. But a slim water bottle will fit. Also, remember that you can purchase the 70 oz. Camelback hydration reservoir from Osprey and attach it to the Daylite Pack.

Osprey also makes the Daylite Plus, a larger version of the Daylite. Please visit our Osprey Daylite vs Daylite Plus review.
