What Makes The j140 Unique
What makes the j140 different from the j130 is the fact that it is made of a heavyweight, ring-spun cotton dock material. This means that it is firmer than the j130. Also, this means that it is water repellent and wind resistant, while the j130 is not as resistant as this jacket. If you’re looking for a jacket that will keep you very warm during the winter and will repel a bit of water, the j140 may be for you. But just remember that it is stiffer, which some people find is not quite as comfortable as the softer j130.
Another thing we want to mention is that the j140 is made in the USA with imported parts. Some people love the fact that it is made in the USA because they feel that it must be made with higher quality processes. But this feature is totally up to the individual and their own beliefs.
What Makes The j130 Unique
While the j140 has stiff materials, the j130 is made of a 100% cotton sandstone duck. This means that the j130 is micro sanded for a softer, worn look. In fact, if you like the look of suede, you may pretty like the look of the j130. It also feels softer on the outside, which may make you feel more comfortable.
Another thing we want to mention is that it is completely imported. So while the j140 is made in the USA, the j130 is not. This may or may not be an issue for a customer, but is worth mentioning depending on what your preference is.

The Verdict
In conclusion, we don’t feel that there is a difference in quality between these two jackets. In fact, the choice the people make between them is simply based on a matter of personal preference.
For us, the biggest difference between them is that the j130 is made of a softer material, as it is sandstone. But this does not mean that it is of any higher-quality (or less). If you prefer a softer and more pliable look, go with the j130. If you want more weather resistance, then perhaps the j140 is for you.
The linings are different. One is flannel, the other a thermal mesh. The 140 is warmer. That’s the difference.
Actually, that is not true. I have both the J130 and the J140 and they are both flannel lined. They do make a different version entirely that is the mesh.
